Abstract

This study examines the evolution of Halal certification in Australia, highlighting its development into a major export-oriented industry. It traces the growth of certification systems, the role of key institutions such as AFIC, and the impact of technological advancements in supporting Halal production and trade. The study emphasises governance, transparency, and regulatory reforms in addressing issues such as fraud and mislabelling, while also noting the expansion of Halal certification into diverse sectors. Despite this progress, challenges remain, including consumer trust, differing standards, and public perception. The findings suggest that strengthening standardisation, consumer awareness, and stakeholder collaboration is essential for sustaining a competitive and credible Halal industry.
